When I was thinking about and planning this website, my natural instinct was to compartmentalize the items.  Place them in ‘little boxes’, so that the site would be neat, organized and easy to navigate.  Nothing wrong with that.

But unfortunately some of us tend to pull those little boxes into all areas of our lives.  Some of us want to keep our work life separate from our family life.  We want to keep our friends and extended family apart.  We want to keep school separate from home life.  And our spiritual life and training we definitely keep separate from most areas of our lives.  But is this healthy? Is it good? Is it the correct thing to do?

As I was pondering this, I knew that I wanted to convey the idea of combining the mental  training (school work) and the heart training (spiritual).  I thought of a portmanteau.  It is a neat thing that was used to pack all your belonging for a long trip.  It has little dividers to keep your things neat and organized.  Separate, but together.

The word portmanteau is even used today to describe blended words – like spork (spoon and fork combined).  That is what I wanted to do.  Take the mental and spiritual training and combine it. I even tried to find a blended word for the domain name, but alas, all the good ones were taken!

Then I was reminded about this scripture in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “These words, which I command you this day, shall be on your heart; v7  and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (WEB)

According to God, we should be able to do it seamlessly during the day.  But why is it so hard then? Maybe it is because we were raised to keep state and church segregated to a degree, because our faith is a ‘private’ matter.  We were never taught how to incorporate it into our being so that it will just spills out automatically, without effort.

The only way that this will happen is when we are so full of God and His truths that it will flood all the compartments of our hearts and minds, and just automatically overflow into our daily lives.  Only then will we be able to apply the truths and knowledge of God in our day-to-day activities effortlessly.
